nt Title: Caring for Clients, Yourself, and Each Other: Practical De-escal
ation & Communication Tools for Direct Service Staff\nStart Date / Time: S
 ep 16, 2026 10:00 AM US/Eastern\nLocation: \nHosted by Common Good Vermont
\nJoin us for a practical, skills-focused limited series on de-escalation
in critical conversations, designed to support direct service staff in saf
 ely navigating high-emotion, high-stakes interactions.\nDate/Time:\nSessio
 n 1: September 16, 2026 10 &ndash\; 11:15amSession 2: September 23, 2026
 10 &ndash\; 11:15am\nSession 1 (75 minutes) &ndash\; 9/16/26\nDe-escalatio
n in Critical Conversations: Staying Safe in High-Emotion Situations\nIn m
oments of heightened fear, uncertainty, and disruption&mdash\;such as the
current climate of increased immigration enforcement and rapid policy shif
ts&mdash\;direct service nonprofit staff are often asked to hold space for
intense emotions, deliver difficult updates, and respond when clients are
scared, angry, or overwhelmed. This interactive webinar focuses on how to
stay steady, safe, and effective in critical conversations with others wh
en the stakes feel high and solutions may be limited.\nDesigned specifical
ly for nonprofit staff in direct service roles, this session will focus on
practical de‑escalation strategies and communication tools for navigati
ng emotionally charged interactions. Participants will explore how to comm
unicate clearly and compassionately, reduce escalation, and help people fe
el heard&mdash\;even when the answer is &ldquo\;no,&rdquo\; &ldquo\;not ye
 t,&rdquo\; or &ldquo\;I don&rsquo\;t know.&rdquo\;\nThe emphasis is on rea
l‑world application: what to do and say in the moment, how to maintain s
afety, and how to respond when fear, grief, anger, or urgency are driving
 the conversation.\nThis session will cover:\n\nPractical de‑escalation t
echniques for tense or emotionally charged situations\nStrategies for navi
gating conversations shaped by fear, uncertainty, or systemic harm\nHow to
deliver hard news or limited updates with clarity and care\nWhat it means
to &ldquo\;help&rdquo\; when there is nothing concrete to offer&mdash\;an
d how presence still matters\nRecognizing escalation early and redirecting
before situations become unsafe\n\nParticipants will leave with clear too
ls, shared language, and increased confidence in their ability to engage i
n difficult external conversations while prioritizing safety, dignity, and
respect.\nAudience:\nNonprofit staff in direct service roles, including f
rontline staff, case managers, advocates, support specialists, and supervi
 sors.\n \nSession 2 (75 minutes) &ndash\; 9/23/26\nPractices, Team Support
, and Organizational Structures That Sustain Direct Service Work\nIn the c
urrent context of heightened immigration enforcement and ongoing social an
d policy uncertainty, direct service staff are carrying more than individu
al difficult conversations&mdash\;they are operating within systems under
strain, often absorbing emotional impact without clear structures to suppo
rt them. This interactive session focuses on what it takes to stay grounde
d and safe internally while doing demanding frontline work&mdash\;and how
organizations and teams can share that responsibility.\nRather than framin
g self‑care as something staff must figure out on their own, this sessio
n emphasizes practical, collective approaches: how teams communicate acros
s roles, how supervisors and peers can support one another in real time, a
nd how organizations can put simple structures in place to reduce emotiona
l overload and isolation.\nParticipants will explore tangible practices th
ey can use immediately&mdash\;as individuals, as teams, and within their o
rganizations&mdash\;to process difficult interactions, prevent emotional s
pillover, and make the work more sustainable over time.\nThis session will
focus on:\n\nRecognizing the specific emotional and cognitive impacts of
repeated high‑stakes conversations in direct service roles\nPractical st
rategies for closing out difficult interactions and transitioning between
tasks without carrying the weight forward\nClear, shared ways teams can de
brief, communicate, and support one another across roles (frontline staff,
  supervisors, administrators)\nSimple organizational practices&mdash\;such
as check‑ins, handoffs, and role clarity&mdash\;that reduce emotional b
urden and prevent staff from feeling solely responsible\nHow supervisors a
nd teams can normalize boundaries, encourage support‑seeking, and build
cultures where it&rsquo\;s safe to name limits\nIdentifying small, actiona
ble policy or practice shifts that organizations can adopt to better prote
ct staff and client relationships\n\nParticipants will work with realistic
scenarios drawn from direct service settings and leave with concrete tool
s, shared language, and structural ideas they can bring back to their team
 s. The goal is not to eliminate difficulty, but to distribute it more fair
ly, so no one is carrying it alone.\nAudience:\nNonprofit staff working in
direct service roles, supervisors, and managers who support frontline tea
ms, including case managers, advocates, program leads, and operations or p
eople managers seeking practical ways to support staff sustainability.\nAl
liance for Nonprofit Impact members are eligible for the Common Good Vermo

omic Progress Institute (EPI) has been a trusted voice for racial and econ
omic justice in Rhode Island. Through research, education, coalition build
ing, and advocacy, we transform data into action &mdash\; advancing polici
es that expand opportunity and strengthen economic security for all Rhode
Islanders.\nOur work has helped secure major policy victories, including e
xpanding paid family leave and childcare assistance, protecting Medicaid a
nd SNAP, increasing the minimum wage, improving access to healthcare, adva
ncing tax fairness, and creating Rhode Island's first permanent refundable
Child Tax Credit. Explore our 2026 Legislative Session Top 20 Wins to see
the impact of this work.\n \nAs sweeping federal policy changes reshape h
ealthcare, food assistance, immigration, tax policy, and economic opportun
ity, Rhode Island faces a defining moment. How we respond will determine n
ot only the future of our state, but also the strength of our communities
 and our democracy.\n \nJoin us for EPI's 15th Annual Policy &amp\; Budget
Conference as we explore one central question: What Will It Really Take?\n
\nThe conference will launch the 2026 Rhode Island Standard of Need (RISN
) Report&mdash\;EPI's signature analysis of what it truly costs to meet ba
sic needs&mdash\;and examine how federal and state policy changes are affe
cting children, families, older adults, immigrants, and communities across
  Rhode Island.\n \nThrough thought-provoking presentations, inspiring spea
kers, and a dynamic panel discussion, national and local leaders will expl
ore the real-world impacts of today's changing landscape and the partnersh
ips, policies, leadership, and civic engagement needed to build a stronger
 , more equitable Rhode Island.\n \nWhether you're a policymaker, advocate,

nt Title: Building Exceptional Relationships\nStart Date / Time: Sep 29, 2
 026 13:30 PM US/Eastern\nLocation: \nSpeaker: Carole Robin\nPresented by t
he Nonprofit Leadership Alliance.\n \n \nThis webinar is based on the book
, &ldquo\;Building Exceptional Relationships with Family Friends and Colle
agues, which is in turn based on a course taught by Carole Robin, Ph.D. at
the Stanford Graduate School of Business. The course, Interpersonal Dynam
ics, affectionately called &ldquo\;Touchy Feely&rdquo\; by students, was t
he most popular and oversubscribed to elective course. For many decades, s
tudents described the course as transformative and often say it alone was
worth the price of tuition. The premise of the course and the book is that
being interpersonally competent is a determinant of both professional and
personal success.\n \nDuring the webinar, we will explore how to move a r
elationship along a continuum from dysfunctional, or in which there is con
tact but no connection, to one that is at a minimum robust and functional,
as well as what it takes to move a relationship even farther down the con
tinuum to exceptional. We&rsquo\;ll talk about the role of appropriate dis
closure and vulnerability, the importance of stretching outside our comfor
t zones, inviting disclosure, developing empathy, giving feedback in servi
ce of building stronger relationships, and dealing with conflict productiv
ely. \n \nLearning Objectives:\n\nLearn how to make relationships more fu
nctional and robust\nUnderstand the role of disclosure and empathy in buil
ding relationships\nLearn about the importance of expressing feelings (in
addition to thoughts) in building stronger relationships\nLearn how to giv

an interactive shucking demonstration and tasting. This workshop will als
 o highlight in-classroom activities developed through GreenCrab.org&rsquo\
;s Crab Class program and pathways for classrooms to engage in community s
cience data-collection efforts.\n \nEuropean green crab is an invasive spe
cies that impacts valuable fisheries and vulnerable ecosystems in the Ocea
n State. After being introduced by European traders over 200 years ago via
ballast water, their populations skyrocketed in the late 20th century due
to climate change. Today, green crabs are one of the most common crab spe
cies in the Northwest Atlantic with growing populations in Japan, Australi
a, New Zealand, South Africa, and the West Coast of the US and Canada.\n \
nFortunately, green crab is also a delicious and versatile seafood with a
rich culinary history in its native and invasive range. In Venice, green c
rabs are sold as soft-shells and for their bright orange roe (eggs). In Tu
nisia, France, and Portugal, green crabs are a staple ingredient in stocks
for soups, couscous, and sauces. In Massachusetts and Rhode Island, invas
ive green crabs have been used as a substitute for rice paddy crab dishes
such as Khmer kdam prai and Vietnamese b&uacute\;n ri&ecirc\;u since the e
arly 2000s.\n \nRegistered Here\n\n--- This iCal file does *NOT* confirm r

. Because, we do more, together. It is important to note that this is not
a typical networking event. It isn't about collecting business cards or pi
tching services. It is about building relationships and community starting
with a conversation. It is about bringing nonprofit folks and business ow
ners together to connect with one another. It might lead to finding your n
ext board member or a new client, but right now it is sort of the 'meet cu

is also an Opportunity to Transform it?\nStart Date / Time: Oct 22, 2026 1
3:00 PM US/Eastern\nLocation: \nPresented by the Center for Law and Social
Policy (CLASP)\n \nIn recent years, states like New York and New Mexico h
ave demonstrated that universal child care is possible. However, despite w
idespread awareness of the value of child care and positive progress at th
e state level, the Trump Administration has continued to dismantle the exi
sting child care and early education system through funding freezes and fr
aud allegations. As a result, the administration has further destabilized
an already fragile sector. But what if the fight to protect child care is
also our opportunity to transform it?\n \nCLASP&rsquo\;s next installment
of Equity Matters will examine what it means to build a truly equitable un
iversal child care system&mdash\;and why the building process matters as m
uch as the vision itself.\n \nOur panel of experts will discuss how meanin
gful engagement with families, providers, and other directly impacted comm
unities&mdash\;particularly communities of color, people with low incomes,
and immigrants&mdash\;strengthens policy design, informs implementation,
and centers equity.\n \nAttendees will gain a deeper understanding of why
centering the leadership and expertise of those most impacted is essential
to advancing racial equity and building a universal child care system tha
t is just, inclusive, and responsive to all who rely on and sustain it.\n
