Community Organizer

Description

We are seeking a dysnamic, bilingual (English/Spanish) leader to organize, educate, and mobilize underrepresented workers. This role focuses on building leadership, enagement, and participation in the community. The organizer will facilitate education, support outreach, orientation, and strengthen relationships within the community and allies,

 

Mission

We build the power of workers by educating and training them on their rights and labor skills, developing new community leaders, and taking direct action against injustice to achieve real victories. We collaborate with state and national coalitions to amplify our impact.

 

Responsibilities

Develop leadership and organize campaigns that advance workers' rights and community power.

   - Work with community members to identify key issues and develop strategies for change

   - Organize workers in exploitative industries and support their leadership to improve working conditions

   - Facilitate meetings and leadership development activities to plan and win campaigns

   - Implement campaign strategies, including nonviolent direct action when appropriate

   - Coordinate wage theft and labor injustice clinics for the community

   - Recruite new members, strengthen relationships through regular one-on-one meetings

   - Build and maintain partnerships with allies and community organizations

   - Use and communicate stories, images, and information respectfully and responsibly 

   - Facilitate training in labor skills and solidarity economy

 

Integration with Fuerza's Staff Team

The Community Organizer will work closely with everyone in the staff to strengthen the different projects and activities Fuerza develops throughout the year such as:

   - Participate in fundraising activities and provide organizing reports to support grant writing

   - Connect interested workers with the Cooperative Business Incubator as an alternative to exploitative industries

   - Participate in weekly staff meetings and maintain strong communication with the team

 

Ideal Qualities

   - Strong bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish)

   - Passion for social justice and developing leadership in others

   - Experience in organizing campaigns and working with community groups

   - Ability to plan, prioritize, and work both independently and in a team

   - Comfortable with non-violent direct action and advocacy

   - Computer Skills

   - Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, and travel
