Description
Presented by the Chronicle of Philanthropy.
Join the Chronicle for a discussion with Tim Dalrymple, who last year became CEO of the Templeton Foundation, which has about $4.3 billion in assets. Dalrymple is the first person not related to the philanthropy’s founders to lead it.
Chronicle CEO Stacy Palmer will talk with Dalrymple about how he is leaning into the foundation’s interdisciplinary approach to its work on science, religion, individual freedom, the free market, and more. In one of his first signature projects, Dalrymple unveiled a $60 million grant-making effort to tackle questions about nature, purpose, and the future of intelligence — a particularly important question in the age of AI.
Before joining Templeton, Dalrymple built a career as a scholar, co-founded a media venture, and then led Christianity Today, where he won praise for navigating controversial topics with a thoughtful approach to political and ecclesiastical divides.
Palmer will talk with him about why that range of experience is especially useful as a foundation leader, how he's thinking about cuts to federal funding for many of the organizations Templeton supports, and how upheavals in higher education, which are Templeton's primary grantee base, affect the foundation's approach.
