This webinar is based on the book, “Building Exceptional Relationships with Family Friends and Colleagues, which is in turn based on a course taught by Carole Robin, Ph.D. at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. The course, Interpersonal Dynamics, affectionately called “Touchy Feely” by students, was the most popular and oversubscribed to elective course. For many decades, students described the course as transformative and often say it alone was worth the price of tuition. The premise of the course and the book is that being interpersonally competent is a determinant of both professional and personal success.
During the webinar, we will explore how to move a relationship along a continuum from dysfunctional, or in which there is contact but no connection, to one that is at a minimum robust and functional, as well as what it takes to move a relationship even farther down the continuum to exceptional. We’ll talk about the role of appropriate disclosure and vulnerability, the importance of stretching outside our comfort zones, inviting disclosure, developing empathy, giving feedback in service of building stronger relationships, and dealing with conflict productively.
